Understanding Block Height

Block height is a term used to describe the number of blocks that have been generated on a blockchain before a particular block. Essentially, it represents the sequential order of blocks within a blockchain. The very first block in a blockchain, also known as the genesis block, has a block height of zero since there are no blocks that precede it.

Every block in a blockchain possesses its own unique block height value. This value serves as an identifier for individual blocks and is a crucial metric for measuring the speed at which new blocks are added to the blockchain. Block height can be thought of as b-1, where b denotes the total length of the blockchain.
