Understanding Repair Miners

Repair miners refer to a proposed category of mining nodes in the Filecoin network. They differ from storage miners and retrieval miners. It is important to note that repair miners are a feature that has not yet been implemented in the Filecoin network.

The developers of Filecoin define repair nodes as nodes that enable “network self-healing.” To grasp this concept, we must consider the structure of Filecoin, which operates as a decentralized system for data storage.

In the Filecoin network, data is stored in fixed-size sectors. Storage miners are responsible for filling these sectors with data on behalf of their clients. Clients enter into contracts, known as deals, with storage miners for a specific duration. Repair miners are envisioned as a third party that can intervene in the event of an unreliable storage miner and help mitigate associated risks.
